Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure aimed at treating infections or damage within the pulp of a tooth. The pulp, located in the tooth’s central chamber, contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues. When the pulp becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, trauma, or other issues, a root canal is performed to save the tooth.
During the procedure, the dentist removes the infected or damaged pulp, cleans and disinfects the interior of the tooth, and then fills and seals it with a material called gutta-percha. Following the root canal, a dental crown is often placed on the tooth to restore its strength and functionality.
Root canal treatment alleviates pain, prevents the spread of infection, and allows patients to retain their natural teeth. Despite its reputation, modern root canal procedures are relatively comfortable due to local anesthesia, making them an effective and routine aspect of restorative dentistry. Regular dental check-ups help identify issues early, minimizing the need for extensive treatments like root canals.
